Volunteers and students meet regularly

Eastern New York, in addition to our other students, hosts a special group of YES Scholarship students. This U.S. State Department scholarship is a response to 9/11 and promotes the AFS mission of peace, one person at a time. YES students are from traditionally Muslim countries. You need not be Muslim or have access to a mosque to host a Muslim student. Generally, not serving pork during their stay is requested though. If you have a special interest in hosting one of these students, contact AFS locally or through the AFS link.
Nurul, called Vita, 16 (f) is a YES student from Indonesia She does Tae Kwon Do three times a week, enjoys playing volleyball, basketball and badminton for fun and participates in debate competitions. We are looking for a January-June family in the Niskayuna School District for Vita.
Above, three Eastern New York YES students from Ghana, The Philippines and Turkey, prepare to return home. As a part of their scholarship requirement, they will teach others what they have learned about U.S. culture.
