STUDENTS ARRIVING in August for 2008-2009 school year are posted NOW
Who We Are
Eastern New York AFS covers an area that goes from the eastern border of the state as far west as Cooperstown, and from the northern border of the state to as far south as Columbia and Green counties. A typical year finds us hosting around 40 high school foreign exchange students and helping approximately ten students to study abroad. Those numbers arise from the number of host families we can identify, and the number of students who apply. We do not pay host families, nor do we, as a chapter, pay tuition for students to go abroad, although some do receive scholarships through other sources.
Our local staff is volunteer. We do not receive any stipend for placing students with host families, or for having students in our district go abroad. We are responsible for providing support for hosted students and families in the form of liaisons who contact them monthly. Volunteers also act as counselors at three retreats for the students during the year. Volunteers interview potential host families and students who are applying to go abroad. Please e-mail any of our local volunteers, with the links on the left for more information.
